During World War II, Russian blue cats almost disappeared, however, thanks to a few West European breeders, they were able to restore the population after the war, and in the 90s of the last century they returned to their historical homeland.

Health

The breed of Russian blue cats is not “built” on genetic mutations and has not changed much in its history, therefore, representatives of the breed have no genetic diseases.

The life expectancy of Russian blue cats is 13-15 years, but there are veterans who live up to 20 years, and they do not have special health problems.

Care

Russian blue cats are unpretentious, but to say that they do not need to be looked after at all - to sin against the truth.

Breeder's recommendation: Minimal hair care is required. Once a week (better often), it is necessary to remove the fallen wool from the back. If there is competition for food, then the main cat eats first, then everyone else in the hierarchy. Moreover, the mother may not even allow the kittens to her favorite food.

We do not need to restrict cats in food. But if the cat lives with you as the only pet and does not participate in breeding, then it is better to sterilize it. And in this case, you will have to fight obesity and limit the amount of food. This may not be easy, as Russian blue cats are great beggars. Of course, they won’t be able to beat dogs, but they know how to portray a creature on the verge of starvation.
