Percheron breed history
Persheronov was bred at the beginning of the 19th century in France. They "merged" the blood of eastern (mainly Arab) stallions and local heavy-duty mares. People needed fast enough, but at the same time hardy and strong horses that would carry mail carriages and omnibuses. But perchers are more likely not the result of purposeful selection, but the product of living conditions in their historical homeland.
The breed received its name from the province of Perche on the south bank of the Seine. These places abound with magnificent pastures, which made horse breeding possible.
Pershers are strong, tall horses that move mainly in strides and unhurried trot.
In France, perchers are divided into large, medium and small. Middle perchers are the most common.

The neck of percheron is of moderate length, muscular, decorated with a thick mane.
The chest is wide and deep.
The withers are slightly raised.
The back is strong, short.
The croup is long and powerful, straight, slightly forked.
The tail is magnificent, has a low landing.
The legs are strong. The forearms are medium length, and the metacarpus is strong but short.
All this makes Percheron unusually hardy and strong, their massiveness is combined with grace.

The use of percheron
Persheronov was bred for jobs that require stamina and strength, including for agricultural. But the gentle ride allows them to also be excellent riding horses.
Percherson vary in size and structure. The lighter type is often used under saddle and harness. Heavier horses are more often used in agriculture or ride tourists in parks. Percheron can travel about 50 km per day.

Perchersons were used to breed Belarusian draft horses. And in the United States they are crossed with small local horses to get farm and coach horses.
